Open and Closed Dewatering (B-FSM-159)

There are two classes of final dewatering – Open and Closed. The selection depends on the level of hazardous contaminants in the system.

Open Dewatering

  • Uses bulk dewatering bag and open frame or covered bin (splash guard)
  • Vapors to atmosphere
  • Gravity filter/drain of liquid to skid pan and return to open drain
  • Solids retained in dewatering bag
  • Simple and cheap process and operation

Closed Dewatering

  • Uses bulk dewatering bag and enclosed frame
  • Vapors captured to vent or process system
  • Gravity filter/drain of liquid to enclosed skid pan and return to closed drain or process
  • Solids retained in dewatering bag
  • Enclosed bin with removable lid, sight glasses, vent, sloped bottom drain, and internal frame to hold dewatering bag
  • Bin sits on load cell platform and entire system in frame
  • Costly and complex design and operation
